Thriving Multicultural Communities (TMC) was proud to host its third annual Youth Iftar in 2025 through the Community Action for a Multicultural Society (CAMS) project, continuing a meaningful initiative that brings young people together through cultural exchange, learning, and shared experiences.

The Youth Iftar was established to create opportunities for young people from non-Islamic backgrounds to connect with their Muslim peers during the holy month of Ramadan. By sharing in the experience of breaking the fast together, participants gained a deeper understanding of Islamic traditions, the significance of Ramadan

, and the values of faith, community, gratitude, and compassion that underpin the month.

More than just a shared meal, the event provided a safe and welcoming space for open conversation. Young people were encouraged to ask questions, learn from one another’s experiences, and engage in respectful dialogue. These conversations helped break down stereotypes, challenge misconceptions and foster greater understanding between people from different cultural and religious backgrounds.

A highlight of the evening was the active participation of students from the Australian International Islamic College, who warmly welcomed guests and shared their personal experiences of observing Ramadan. Their willingness to engage in meaningful discussions helped create authentic connections and gave attendees valuable insights into the lived experiences of Muslim young people.

TMC would like to extend its sincere thanks to the Australian International Islamic College for generously hosting the Youth Iftar for the second consecutive year. Their ongoing support and commitment to community engagement have played a significant role in the event’s continued success.

As the Youth Iftar continues to grow each year, it remains a powerful example of how bringing people together through shared experiences can build understanding, strengthen relationships, and create a more inclusive and connected community for all young people.
