Our History

TMC - Thriving Multicultural Communities has its roots in 2001, when it was established as 'The Migrant Centre.'

Initially focused on supporting migrants and refugees, the organisation began with a small but passionate team.

In 2004, Anna Zubac joined the centre, and by 2006, she became the Executive Director. Under her guidance, TMC has transformed into a vital organisation, now employing 16 staff members and operating from three locations across the Gold Coast.

In 2021, we rebranded as TMC - Thriving Multicultural Communities to better reflect our expanded mission. This name change highlights our commitment to serving not only migrants and refugees but also Australians from diverse backgrounds. By doing so, we aimed to raise community awareness of our comprehensive range of services and our dedication to inclusivity.

From our humble beginnings in a modest office on the ground floor of the Southport TAFE Building, we have grown significantly. Today, TMC is proud to be connected with over 70 grassroots ethnospecific organisations, enhancing our ability to reach and support various communities. This network allows us to better understand the unique needs of those we serve and collaborate effectively to provide targeted support.

Our journey has been driven by a steadfast commitment to empowering individuals and fostering multicultural connections. TMC stands as a testament to the resilience and diversity of the communities we serve, striving to create a vibrant environment where all individuals can thrive. Our history reflects not just our growth, but our enduring mission to promote unity and equal opportunity for all members of our community.
