As the sun set over the Gold Coast, the glow of Diwali lights, the rhythm of music and the energy of celebration filled the evening with warmth and joy. The 2025 Diwali Festival of Lights brought together people from across the community to celebrate one of the world's most cherished cultural traditions and the values of unity, hope and togetherness.
Hosted by the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) Gold Coast Inc. and the Indian Community of Gold Coast, the celebration welcomed community members, leaders, families and friends from diverse backgrounds to experience the beauty and significance of Diwali.
Known as the Festival of Lights, Diwali represents the triumph of light over darkness, good over negativity and hope over challenges. Beyond the beautiful decorations and celebrations, the festival provides an opportunity for communities to come together, share traditions, and strengthen connections through culture.
The evening was filled with vibrant performances, traditional music, dancing, and moments of connection as attendees celebrated the richness of Indian heritage. The event highlighted the important role cultural celebrations play in bringing people together and creating opportunities for communities to share their stories with a wider audience.
The celebration was also attended by Mr Hermann Vorster MP, Minister for Multiculturalism, International Student Attraction and Community and Business Engagement, alongside community leaders, organisations, and supporters who joined together to recognise and celebrate this special occasion.
TMC was grateful to be invited to support this wonderful celebration and to stand alongside GOPIO Gold Coast Inc., the Indian Community of Gold Coast and the many volunteers, sponsors and community members who helped make the event such a success.
Events like Diwali showcase the strength of our multicultural community and remind us that culture has the power to connect people, build understanding, and create a stronger sense of belonging. TMC remains committed to supporting community-led celebrations that bring people together and celebrate the diversity that makes the Gold Coast thrive.
